self-portrait series // linoleum reduction

This linoleum relief has five stages— as I carved more of the block away, more details emerge from my portrait and the image comes closer and closer to how I looked at the time of making. Each print is titled based on tarot cards that I associated with moments during the beginning of my college experience, with the first being “The Fool”. The Fool is the first card in a deck, sometimes being associated with a clown or jester, and indicates beginnings and idealism, and if reversed, can reference naivety, gullibility, and recklessness. This connection between titles and past emotions and experiences was carried through each print, ending with the card that I had resonated with most at the time of creation, the Hanged Man.
